Letting Him Go

She was mad at him, for leaving her behind
so young, so innocent, she cried- he was too happy to have died.

She prayed to God, lying on her bed
the tears came freely, then she sighed, because she felt him by her side.

"I'm so lost!" she said aloud, knowing he was there the whole time
"What is there in this world I can do
to help me deal without you?"

A soft breeze whispered by her ear, though the window was locked tight
"I'm so sorry to leave you alone- the world is big and scary on your own.

But listen to my words- heed them well; your life is still ahead."
She felt the words inside her head
warming, calming her sense of dread.

"Forgive me for abandoning you and leaving you to fend for yourself.
You will find happiness once you let my wandr'ing soul rest.

Because you haven't let me go, I linger here, trapped and cold
only by your word of grace
will I ever escape this place."

The silence grew expectant; she knew what she must do.
Sh drew a breath, let it loose,
then spoke the words with utmost truth.

"Dearest sacred beloved of mine, I never wished to hurt you.
As I give you my forgiveness I yearn,
to seek and cherish yours in return."

Ghostly fingers brushed her cheek and ran softly through her hair.
"You have mine, my sweet rose and by this our bond is still stronger than most.

"I'll always love you, though we're not together- I'll be watching you from Above
And when you feel alone, remember
someday our happiness will last forever."

One last feather-light kiss brushed her lips, and then she was alone
but not quite, she realized
His gaze was on her from the skies.

She smiled softly, seeing now- realizing in her revelation-
how she had let him free
and bore the sacred knowledge that forgivness was the key.
